Journey across the border of Maine and New Hampshire and you will find one of the most unique settings in all of New England. Province Lake Golf winds through the woods and wraps the lake. You can actually view Province Lake from 14 of the 18 holes. In spring, you'll play as our hardwood forest swells with greenery; on sultry summer days, cool lake breezes will rustle the leaves; in fall, the surrounding birch, maple and oaks flame with color. It's a magnificent backdrop for a beautifully maintained course with a great variety of holes that take full advantage of ponds, rolling terrain and surrounding views. Most of the course is located in Parsonsfield, Maine, in Northern York County, but on two holes you actually tee off in one state and putt in the other. But there's a whole lot more golf to write about here than geography. This is a course that prides itself on appealing to all kinds of golfers. We have been named the No. 1 woman-friendly course in New England by Golf Digest's 2005, 2006 and 2007 Golf for Women magazine, partly because of our five sets of tees. Longer hitters will love the challenge of our great course as well. We have held New Hampshire amateur qualifiers here where the state's low handicappers racked up an average score of 84 playing our doglegs and water rimmed holes. The low score was 74, three over par.
We're just a relaxing drive away: You'll find Province Lake in Parsonsfield, Maine and Effingham, New Hampshire, on scenic route 153, running south to north parallel to Route 16, and ending in Conway, New Hampshire. Our off-the-beaten-path location allows for a quiet country setting with regular wildlife settings. We are less than two hours north of Boston, 35 minutes from Conway and Wolfeboro, and less than an hour from Kennebunk and Portland.
We're family friendly: Some courses say they like families, but Province Lake has actually done something to reach out to you. We have 5 tees for each hole, creating a course that can play as short as 2,000 yards for youngsters and beginners, and as long as 6,300 yards for the more experienced. We offer special rates for juniors and our child-care service is available to parents at a nominal rate, an offering unique to our course in New England and in the United States. The pro shop is stocked with equipment and apparel for all ages and abilities. For all these reasons, and more, Golf Digest's 2005 and 2006 Golf for Women magazine rated Province Lake Golf as No. 1 in New England and No. 39 in the United States.
We take good care of our course: The fairways and greens are professionally maintained on a daily basis, ensuring uniform play each time you visit. Despite this consistent quality of the playing surfaces, the course record from the tips remains one over par due in large part to the small greens and narrow landing areas.
This is an all-round great place to visit: At the end of play, our golfers can relax in our turn of the century Mulligan's Bar or sit on the patio looking down the length of the first hole to Province Lake. We offer a wide variety of food choices and beverages, served by our experienced and friendly staff.
